Aviair

Accessibility

At Aviair, we are committed to providing a seamless and comfortable travel journey for all passengers. Whether you’re travelling for business or leisure, we strive to make your experience a memorable one.

Aviair’s Operations and Reservations staff members complete Disability Awareness Training as part of their onboarding process and can provide assistance that is tailored to each passenger’s unique needs.

If you or someone you’re travelling with has a medical condition or impairment, please let our friendly team know at the time of booking. The Aviair team can offer flight and/or tour recommendations based on a passenger’s circumstances.

Aviair has a dedicated Accessibility Contact, whose contact details are included below.

Booking Information

Aviair flights and packages can be booked directly or through a travel agent via the following booking platforms: phone, email, website, in person at the Broome, Kununurra, or Karratha terminals, and on the Global Distribution System or GDS (travel agents only).

Passengers who require a specific seating arrangement or need to be seated next to a carer (or a family member or friend who is acting as a carer) can request this at the time of booking.

We strive to accommodate all special seating requests and welcome passengers with reduced mobility to visit our terminal in anticipation of their flight to familiarise themselves with the check-in, boarding, and deboarding experience.

At Aviair, we commit to providing an efficient check-in experience for all passengers. Private check-ins and secluded waiting areas are available for passengers who require them. Please request this at the time of booking. Kindly note that requests made less than a week prior to departure are subject to availability.

Car Park and Bus Transfers

All Aviair bases have conveniently located drop-off zones and designated parking bays for passengers with reduced mobility, as well as level or ramped access from the car park to the terminals’ entrances.

We provide complimentary flight pick-up and drop-off services from all hotels, motels, and caravan parks in Kununurra and Broome. Drivers can assist with luggage loading and unloading, but please note that they are not trained in patient care handling techniques. Our current van fleet does not have wheelchair lifts or ramps.

External Paths and Terminal Facilities

The entryways are easily accessible from the carparks and have slip-resistant paths and clear signage.

Kindly note that the Aviair Broome entryway is narrower than the Kununurra and Karratha ones. If you have any concerns or would like to request further information on the Aviair Broome access, please contact our Accessibility Contact (details below).

The Kununurra terminal features a large, private outdoor area with benches for passengers who would prefer to wait for boarding outside

The Aviair departure lounges are easy to navigate and feature wide, unobstructed corridors between chairs, allowing wheelchair-bound passengers to circulate easily. The terminal floors and walls have contrasting colours for better visibility.

All terminals are equipped with an accessible toilet, which features a wide access door, handrails, a low sink, and interior space for manoeuvring. Accessible toilets are visible from all terminal areas.

The check-in area includes low counters and clipboards with large-print information depicting the items that are prohibited on flights. Clipboards and tablets as alternative communication methods.

Dangerous Goods declarations can be completed verbally or in writing.  All registration forms and travel tickets are available in large print format, and the safety video has open captions to facilitate compliance for all passengers.

Priority check-in and boarding can be requested. There are ample wide seats at the terminals’ waiting areas, with access to filtered hot and cold water. Passengers who require a secluded waiting area can request this at the time of booking.

In-Flight Experience

Scenic flight scripts are distributed at the time of check-in. In-flight commentary is also delivered via the aircraft’s public announcement system or headsets. We recommend following along with the script, which includes a map of the Bungle Bungle’s or Mitchell Plateau’s flights’ highlights.

For passengers interested in further researching the Kimberley’s flora, fauna, geology, and history, the Aviair Kununurra terminal has books on the region available for sale. Complimentary Kimberley maps are available to all.

Collapsible wheelchairs can be carried on all Aviair flights. Kindly note that electrical wheelchairs are not permitted on board but can be stored at the terminal until the passenger returns.

Walking Tours

If you are joining an Aviair full-day tour package, our sister company, Bungle Bungle Guided Tours, provides on-ground walking tours in Purnululu National Park.  Some tours can be modified to account for slower walkers and guests with reduced mobility.

The tour guide to guest ratio never exceeds 15 to 1. Tour guides are trained to communicate clearly and be understood by all guests. They undergo first aid and cultural awareness training as part of their onboarding.

The National Park features information panels at the start of every walk, while tour guides offer additional and complimentary information on the history, geology, and cultural importance of landmarks during the drive/s and walk/s.

Bungle Bungle Guided Tours also offers private, fully customisable tours in the comfort of a 4WD vehicle. The vehicles can access the Southern and Northern End carparks, which are located at the start of The Domes, Bloodwoods, and Echidna Chasm trails and are set against the backdrop of the range, offering magnificent views of the beehive domes and the conglomerate/sedimentary Northern End formations.

Private tours for passengers with reduced mobility or who require the use of a wheelchair can also visit the Stonehenge circuit, which is flat and 520m long. It’s a leisurely trail with stunning views of the Bungle Bungle Range in the distance. The walk depicts the trees, shrubs, and grasses that TO have foraged, used for hunting, or for household chores.

Additionally, passengers on private tours can request to visit the interactive Visitor Centre, which offers virtual reality tours of Echidna Chasm, Cathedral Gorge, and Whipsnake Gorge. The Visitor Centre features a large verandah with spectacular views of the Range.

Accommodation

If your package includes one or more nights at Purnululu National Park, you will be staying at the Bungle Bungle Savannah Lodge. The lodge features 27 ensuite cabins, a restaurant (indoor and outdoor seating available), and a pool with an outdoor deck area. The lodge features clear, illuminated paths between the cabins and the restaurant and pool area. Public bathrooms are available near the restaurant area.

Cabin four has an accessible bathroom including ramp access, a wide interior area, handrails in the shower and toilet, and a low sink. Kindly note that it is not internally connected to Cabin Four, which is also equipped with a standard bathroom. If you require the use of an accessible bathroom, please request that this cabin be allocated to your reservation at the time of booking.

Some standard cabins have bathrooms with walk-in, curtained showers that are level with the ground floor. Guests who would prefer this design over a step-in shower with glass doors for easier access must request this at the time of booking. Hot water is controlled via a thermostat.

Some cabins are standalone, while others share a deck with the continuous one. Guests who require two cabins to share the outdoor deck area can request this at the time of booking.

The cabins’ interiors have contrasting colours and beds with rounded edges. All bedding, toiletries, and cleaning products are non-allergenic. A maximum of two C-PAP machines are allowed at any one time to ensure no electrical disruptions. If you use a C-PAP machine, please advise this at the time of booking.

Medications that require constant refrigeration can be entrusted to the lodge’s Manager or Assistant Manager, who will store them in a dedicated section of the lodge’s cool room.

For additional details on what to expect when staying at Bungle Bungle Savannah Lodge, please refer to this Accessibility Guide.
