There is so much to see around Kununurra. The landscape is astonishingly spectacular and its well worth spending a few days here and exploring. Here are some suggestions from our local specialists.
A drive to Wyndham is a good day trip, visit the port and drive up the Bastion ( Wyndham's very big hill) to view the 5 rivers leading into the Cambridge Gulf. You can include a stop at Parry’s Creek, or Marlgu Billabong for a myriad of birdlife and the the Grotto for a swim in the deep pool. About 100km each way.
Drive to Emma Gorge on El Questro with a walk into the stunning gorge to swim in the pool under the waterfall. Enjoy a lovely lunch at their restaurant. About 80km each way
A drive to Lake Argyle is a lovely day out, including a stop at the Homestead Museum, a swim in the famous infinity pool, eat fish and chips at the Lake Argyle pub and perhaps take a cruise on the Lake. 70 km drive each way.
If you don’t want to go that far then a drive out to the Ord Irrigation Area, including stops at the Sandalwood Factory, The Hoochery for local rum and around past Ivanhoe Crossing and visiting Kimberley Stonecraft to see Zebra Rock. All these places have interesting things to see as well as very nice cafes.
Mirima National Park is a must, it's very close to town, allow 1 hour to do one of the walks. A sunset on top of Kellys Knob is an excellent idea on one of your evenings. You could do these on a helifishing day/ with HeliSpirit or after an Aviair Bungle Bungle and Lake Argyle scenic flight.
If you plan to take a souvenir home for your loved one then a visit to Ninas Jewellery and Kimberley Fine Diamonds to check out the pink diamonds might be an idea! Warringarri Art is another good place to find local souvenirs. You wont find any 'made in China' stickers here! They are all from this country.
